Fuencaliente Spain

Fuencaliente de La Palma is a Canarian municipality belonging to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is located in the south of the island of La Palma. The municipal capital is called Los Canarios Other smaller population centers are Los Quemados, Las Caletas, La Fajana and El Charco hamlet. The name of the municipality comes from a source of medicinal thermal waters known as Santa Fountain that was on the coast of the municipality, near the current Echentive Beach, and that was buried by the lava of the Fuencaliente volcano. Much of the municipality is protected, with the figures of the Natural Park of Cumbre Vieja, Natural Reserve of the Volcanoes of Fuencaliente, the Protected Landscape of Tamanca and the Site of Scientific Interest of the Salinas de Fuencaliente. The economy of the municipality is based on the cultivation of banana, tourism, the cultivation of the vine and the production of wine. In 2016 it was evacuated because of one of the largest fires on La Palma.
